The wreath was made with coffee filters (painted with spray paint after glued onto wreath form), plastic dinosaurs, a bag of rocks, and a mini pennant banner that I made with jute twine, brown card stock and staples.
I made mini brownie volcano bites out of brownie pops and yellow and red candy melt.
Mini glass parfait glasses from the shop were filled with crushed Oreo’s and chocolate pudding. The cute wooden scoops are also from the shop.
I wanted the invitation to look like a rock chart. Instead of the rocks actual names I typed out the party information. A small mesh bag filled with rocks was stapled onto the front of the invitation for added charm. A miniature magnifying glass was also tied onto the invitation…enlarging the word “PARTY”.
The incredible geode cake was made by Jacob Durham. He used rock candy from Kara’s Party Shop (available in 5 lb. bags) to decorate the geode’s and the outside of the cake! So cool!
Clear plastic round favor dishes from the shop were filled with edible chocolate rocks.
I purchased a fun Minerals poster for the party table backdrop on etsy and browned it up a bit with spray stain.
Orange striped popcorn boxes from the shop were filled with chocolate rock dig popcorn. The wooden scoops and mini chalk board signs are also from the shop.

The kids put all their party favors in brown gable boxes labeled “Pet Rocks”. Gray stripe washi tape also available in Kara’s Party Shop.
Plastic dinosaurs were buried in a galvanized tub filled with sand. Wooden scoops from the shop were the perfect tool to use to dig for fossils. The mini chalk board sign is also from Kara’s Party Shop.
The kids broke open Geode’s (purchased from Oriental Trading) as one of the party activities!
The rock bouncy balls were a hit!
Follow the recipe below to make easy ROCK COOKIES!
Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 and 1/4 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix all the ingredients together until the dough is well incorporated. Form into rock shaped cookies with clean hands (makes about eight 3-4” cookies).
Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes or until they begin to brown. Remove from the oven and cool completely.
Combine 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 drop of black food coloring, and a tiny drop of green food coloring together until you have reached your desired color and consistency…add more powdered sugar or milk if needed. Using a basting brush, paint glaze onto cooled cookies until evenly spread.
I made Geological Layer Cakes out of chocolate candy rocks, crushed oreo’s, chocolate cake, crushed shortbread cookies and green frosting, all layered in cute jars.
The kids put their geode pieces in cute brown striped favor bags from the shop.
Mini glass jars with cork lids from the shop were filled with more candy rocks.
Striped brown plates and red striped wooden forks from Kara’s Party Shop.
Jacob Durham used rock candy from Kara’s Party Shop (available in 5 lb. bags) to decorate the geode’s and the outside of the cake! It looked awesome!
The kids went on a rock hunt….and tried to match the rocks as close as possible to the rocks on the cards I gave them.
Daisy cut mason jar lids and birch wood paper straws from Kara’s Party Shop.

The kids came inside to watch a fun youtube video about the rock process.
Like I said earlier, my mom is a geologist. She came and gave an awesome presentation on the volcano eruption process! The kids LOVED it!…
